Day trips from London # 3 - Windsor castle
After 2 trips with Coach travels, we went for the third trip on our own to Windsor castle. It was again not pre planned and only two of us set to Windsor castle on Sunday morning right after my trip to Stonehenge and bath. Initially, it didn't feel very advantageous to go on own - the isn't much price difference (out of London train tickets are almost twice for 1-2 travellers as opposed to group tickets for 3 or more) and we get to spend same amount of time in the castle as provided by tour packages. However, figuring out the way to castle and exploring different eateries and ice-cream parlours was quite fun. Also I liked the railway station very much, maybe more than castle. It got quite a few vintage looking stores but of latest brands (I saw bare minerals store for first time😁) and good number of restaurants.
Since we started bit late, it was lunchtime by the time we reached the station. After browsing through few restaurants, we decided on sandwiches and waffles in a cozy cafe. It was crowded but a sweet couple kindly let us share their table.
After lunch, we walked a bit to reach the castle entrance. It was a cloudy afternoon and the weather was just lovely which made the long walk less tiring, infact pleasant 😍.
For some reason these buildings reminded me of an university 🤔😌
We spent about 3-4 hours in the castle. The main castle got a museum and it was most well organized one I visited so far. We are able to cover the entire place without going back to same chamber, which is common occurrence for me when I visit museums.
There is a doll house in another building which was a gift to the Queen from her grand daughter. It is exact replica of the castle with every room built in proportion including the furniture. Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to take photographs - they wouldn't have turned out to any good anyway as the lighting is very dim inside.
I just loved the view above. The stairway, shrubs and mini waterfall - just felt my happy place came out of my dreams 👼.
We made our way back in the evening but not before getting an ice-cream 😋
This beautiful flower decoration in bus stop added a subtle pop of color and brightened the neutral backdrop 😍.
Even though not very far, it was a good start and made me want to travel on my own more.
