Sussex days trips #5 - Portsmouth visit 2
On my second visit to Portsmouth, I wanted to go to another place in addition to dockyard. Thought of a fort initially, but considering the proximity and number of forts and palaces already visited, I decided on Charles Dickens birthplace. It was short bus ride away from the dockyard, so started a little early so I could make use of my pass. Maybe because I went early, there aren’t any visitors in the place which was good as the house is not quite spacious. The author was born in there, however did not spend a lot of time - probably about 6 months. His family was not doing well financially and had to move away soon. Unsurprisingly, the place is preserved very well. They have a book store in the ground floor. I wanted to purchase the tale of two cities but it is not available. The person at reception searched for it and embarrassed that they didn’t have it in stock 😅. I bought The mystery of Edwin Drood.
