Food love
Before leaving London, in a team farewell party, we talked about what we miss the most about the city - some said security, some said transport and I said food, to everyone's surprise. When I search for strawberries in online grocery sites to find them out of stock or get raw avocados and let them ripe in room temperature for few days only to find them ruined, I think about markets next to our office/home filled with ripe avocados and juicy berries and weep a little😢. So, I felt like writing about the foods I had during my stay in London and wish I could still eat them.
Pistachio eclairs: I used to stop by this tiny patisserie in Canary Wharf, conveniently located in the same building as our office - a tiny counter tucked under an escalator 😊. I liked all their confectioneries, but its the eclairs that I absolutely loved - pistachio cream ones especially. They are fluffy and the cream is just heavenly😇. I don't think any of my future trips to London will end without paying a visit to this place.
Nutella croissant: Croissants might be french, but I had my best in London. I first had them in Waterloo station during one of the day trips along with the potato wedges - they are also available in Liverpool station. I loved them both but its the croissant that I remember and miss. I tried croissants in multiple places but nothing comes close, not even the ones I had in Paris🤷🏻♀️.
Bourbon cake: while getting out of the Angel station, we cross a bunch of posters by the escalators and one of them is Hummingbird bakery. Every day I go to office, I notice that poster but didn't go there until after few months - how much I regret not going there sooner. Only few mins walk away from the station, they have awesome cakes and pastries. Bourbon cake is the combined favorite of my friend's and mine. Its not too sweet and similar to the homemade cake. No cream, no decorations - just a simple piece of cake feels like a warm hug from inside🤗.
Few others from my various trips which I might have had only once, but still makes me think of them quite often:
Marmalade in France: while trying to get breakfast in Paris, apparently after usual hours, I only got some bread and coffee. However, they served this amazing marmalade which made the simple breakfast a memorable one. I bought so many marmalades to find something similar, but with no luck😔
Pizza in Italy: We had the pizza in Milan in a small restaurant almost at the closing time with leftover vegetables and it still exceeded expectations we had for the staple Italian dish. Unfortunately our plans to visit that place again the next day didn't work out. But every time I had pizza since then, I think of that meal.
Coorg Coffee: My friends often make jokes about my addiction to coffee, Muks calls it elixir of my life (some movie reference I couldn't recollect). While I liked everything we ate in Coorg, it's the coffee we had on the way which is the highlight of the trip. One my friends went back in search of that place, but couldn't find it.
What is your memorable dish?
