Sussex Day Trips #6 - Hastings
While rest of the gang were arriving from London, I was the one travelling separately from Crawley. Cherry on the top, my connecting train got cancelled and bus service was arranged as alternative. Thought it took longer to reach, I got the favourite front seat on top of double decker bus and the journey was amazing.
Despite the bumps, I was first to arrive 😎. It was past noon by the time everyone gathered and we grabbed a quick lunch before venturing into the town.
We went on to the hillock with gorgeous views of sea and shore.
The hilltop isn’t the only attraction. In the way, we visited a smuggler themed museum (smuggling seemed to be quite prevalent in these areas).
It got all sorts of things which were smuggled and replicas of punishments levied on “criminals” (most of them were common people trying to survive difficult times 😔).
We regathered at tea time and it started getting chilly. All of us went to a fort (or the remnants) nearby. The only closed part of the fort is the screening room which played history of the fort in frequent sessions-I think we went to last one).
With dusk setting in, we climbed down to the town (or did we take the cable car🤔). After a short stroll, ended the day at the beach and I got a crepe from a small cafe (I never pass up an opportunity to getting a crepe, especially in a beach 🤤).
Surprisingly not tired after a day of continuous walking, I took the bus back to Crawley. While I do prefer solo trips, it was quite fun to be in a group and Hastings is perfect place to hang out with friends.
