Sussex days trips #5 - Portsmouth visit 2
Maybe because I went early, there aren’t any visitors in the place which was good as the house is not quite spacious. The author was born in there, however did not spend a lot of time - probably about 6 months. His family was not doing well financially and had to move away soon. Unsurprisingly, the place is preserved very well.
I took the harbour tour again and visited war museum which, like submarine, could be reached in boat. It took a good amount of time to cover the museum which housed a variety of armoury and real size replicas of camouflage dens used during wars.
They have a cafe and a function hall as well - it was being prepped for a wedding.
After the museum, I visited Mary rose - the ticket had to be bought separately as it wasn’t included in the pass then☹️. It have 2 floors and filled with retrieved items from the ship spread across different categories. Most of them are medical supplies for doctors and food supplies. Across the exhibits are write ups of the history, observations and speculations.
The original ship is displayed behind glass enclosed section with frequent light and sound narration. I went just few days before start of summer vacation, so the place wasn’t very crowded. A nice lady there explained few things and also mentioned she wouldn’t have so much leisure once the kids start visiting 😄. There is a small room towards the exit where there is a video playing continuously of the retrieval - coincidentally the heavy machinery manufacturer in the video is the client I went there to work for 😂.
I went back to few stores to pick up few souvenirs - few of them I narrowed down in my previous visit weren’t available anymore 😔.
I went to Quays shopping area a little earlier then before. After a bit of shopping (quite a bit actually 🫣), I concluded the day with a meal at Frankie and Bennys 🍽️.
